Why does car surround sound systems sound better than home systems?

"Tight" sounding. The soundstage to me is more controlled in a car.Why can't home system sound like that? That's the reason I want to use a stereo system in my home instead of a surround sound system.
1. If you do it right your home system should sound a lot better than the car. You need to find out what needs to be done as far as sound reenforcement and control of reflected sounds; Standing waves and other anomalies that deteriorate the sound. Placement of the speakers can make a huge difference. Placement of furniture; Wall treatments and of course the quality of speakers you use and how you set up the surround modes.
In a car you are limited to where you can place speakers also the noise of motion is also a deterrent that you don't have to deal with in the home. You just need to do more research into what is going to produce good sound for you, and then go about doing it.
2. Build a room that's shaped like a car, and it will. :) It's all about acoustics. The speakers in a home stereo are alot further away, therefore the soundwaves reflect off many different surfaces before they get to your ears. A good dedicatedhome theater can sound very tight, provided the walls are treated properly, parallel surfaces are minimized, reflections are controlled, etc.
Cars are so small in comparison it's almost like wearing headphones - not nearly as many reflections between the speakers and your ears. No, a car stereo system in your home is a bad idea - you'll have lower quality equipment, higher levels of distortion, and have the same acoustic problems a surround sound system has. Stick with components and speakers designed for a home environment. The better quality speakers you buy, the tighter and more focused the sound will be. I think your main issue is that you've never heard a really good home surround sound installation. Once you do, you'll change your mind about what sounds best.
3. Smaller space
