What is the difference between computer speakers and hifi speakers?

It seems to be the trend that speakers designed for computers have two (or four, or five, whatever) satellite speakers (tweeters?) and then a subwoofer. Whereas for hifis it seems that you have two speaker cabinets, with a woofer and a tweeter in each.
Many HIFI buffs only use 2.0 stereo as music not coded for surround listening sounds echoey and odd when used on 5 speakers but you can switch 5.1 systems to 2.1 mode where it has stereo plus the subwoofer.
a 2.0 system with 2 sub woofers in 2 cabinets is little different from a 2.1 system with 1 subwoofer and 2 separate mid/high range speakers) as the human ear cannot tell where bass comes from due to its long wavelengths it is the mid//high range frequencies that locate the source of the bass so the listening experience for all but 1 in 10,000,000 is the same for a 2.0 and a 2.1 system
the difference between computer an HIFI systems is the quality of the speakers and the accuracy of their production. my computer has a 2.1 system and my HIFI (Bose) has a 5.1 system and the sound form the hifi is much clearer and louder than the computer.. and my 5.1 Bose system has better stereo sound than my neighbors (LP based more expensive but older old fashioned 2.0 system)
